JAMMU, Jan 8: Former minister and senior National Conference leader, Ajay Sadhotra today said that the farmers are feeling deceived and neglected by PDP-BJP Government, resulting in frustration and alienation among them.
Addressing a meeting of party workers and former Sarpanches, organized by local leader Th Mohan Singh at Shame Chak in Marh Assembly segment today, Sadhotra said that fast growing alienation among farmers is alarming. There is strong resentment among the farming community of the area. They are being befooled. He said the price of fertilizers, seeds and pesticides is touching the sky and return to the farmers is very small. It has caused sense of deceit and neglect among them.
The issue of land compensation of Kissans of ring road has been totally ignored and very meager amount of compensation is being given to them. The farmers have land which is the only source of their livelihood but this Government has adopted inhuman attitude by fixing very little rate of land acquisition, Sadhotra said.
The NC leader said it is unfortunate that neither BJP Govt at the Centre nor in Jammu and Kashmir is serious to redress problems of Kissans. Mere walk out of BJP MLAs from Assembly cannot solve the problems of farmers. It is just an eyewash. If BJP is really interested in solving the land compensation problem, then it should force Government to give adequate compensation for ring road land.
Sadhotra demanded that Centre and State Governments should take immediate remedial steps to provide adequate and respectable compensation for the land acquisition for ring roads. He asked the kissans to be united to fight anti-Kissan policies of BJP Government.
Sadhotra asked the National Conference workers to rise to the occasion and help the kissans in mitigating their problems.
Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion included, Th. Mohan Singh Langeh, Th Swarn Singh Manhas, Subedar Ghasita Ram, Rakesh Sharma (Pahalwan), Dr Yash Pal, Saran Singh Langeh (Titu), Dev Raj Ex-Naib Sarpanch, Surinder Singh, Dewan Singh Ex-Sarpanch and Ch Keemat Ex-Sarpanch, B L Sharma Ex-Sarpanch, C D Bhagat and Saudagar Saini.
