JAMMU, Mar 7: Castigating PDP-BJP Coalition for weakening traditional amity and regional harmony in a sensitive state like J&K, former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today accused the two parties of playing `dirty politics’ to conceal their inherent contradictions.
“PDP and BJP are creating hype and plunging the State into uncalled for controversies over issues which are no way connected either with governance or the much touted development”, Mr Bhalla said while addressing a gathering at Ambedkar Nagar in Gandhi Nagar constituency as a part of ongoing mass contact programme.
Bhalla condemned the police lathi-charge on students, describing it as ‘inhuman and brutal’. He said it was unfortunate that the police used brute force against students who were justified in demanding cancelation of Physics exam. Extending the party’s support to the agitating students, Bhalla demanded that the Education Minister must take immediate measure to resolve the issue.
Congress leader alleged that electricity supply was erratic, unemployment rampant while people were facing acute shortage of essential commodities and health care system is virtually defunct in rural areas. He said casual, daily wagers and other temporary employees are without wages for months. Artisans and small businessmen are facing huge crisis and the peasants and orchardists are in acute distress, but the Government is least bothered about these important issues,” Bhalla said.
Former Minister called for expediting work on all the key projects so that these are completed within the time-frame besides expediting development works, ensuring good governance and providing a hassle-free administration by reaching out to the people and mitigate their grievances. He said with the present pace of delivery, there is still huge gap in decision-taking and implementation on the ground.
Bhalla said that the party is ready for early polls but sought free, fair and transparent delimitation of Panchayats across the State. He took objections to the mode and manner the delimitation of wards in the Panchayats has been undertaken by the PDP-BJP Government, thus vitiating the atmosphere for a free, fair and transparent electoral exercise to the Panchayat bodies in the State.
