‘BJP scared of NC’s existence’

JAMMU, Nov 25: National Conference vice president and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today blamed the PDP-BJP tie-up for depriving Jammu and Kashmir of its unique Constitutional position, “pushing its people to wall”.
Addressing workers convention at Sumbal Sonawari and later speaking to reporters, Omar observed that had the PDP accepted unconditional support of NC following 2014 Assembly elections, the situation would have been entirely different.
“Decision of 2019 could have been averted had the PDP accepted our support to keep the BJP away from corridors of power, Unfortunate tie-up cost entire region its unique Constitutional position, pushing its people to wall,” he said.
Accusing successive Governments at the Centre of plotting to weaken the National Conference, Omar said abrogating Article 370 would not have been possible if JKNC was in power. “It is a bitter truth that August 5, 2019 would not have been possible if National Conference had not been weakened. When did the people of Delhi not try to weaken the NC? From 1953 until today, they have been continuously trying to find a way to destroy it,” he said. Click here to watch video
Omar said that after August 5, 2019, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has completely changed. “Where we used to talk about development, employment, electricity, water and roads, today we talk about our honour, our identity. After August 5, the youth were told that they will get employment while sitting at home, but that day and today, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have got nothing but problems, sufferings and hardships. There are thousands of vacancies in all Government departments, but the work of filling the vacancies is not happening anywhere, if a recruitment list is published somewhere, then the next day it is questioned and subsequently the list gets cancelled,” he said.
The NC vice president said, “Look at the electricity distribution system these days. I have been the Power Minister myself and I know that we were not able to provide 24-hour power, but the supply position at least was not the same. But what is the matter now? We are witnessing the worst ever power outages across Kashmir.”
Meanwhile, Omar said that BJP is scared of his party’s existence and it is why they delayed ULB, Panchayat and Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir.
Abdullah said that the aim of his party is to get maximum votes in elections. “…I don’t say that the National Conference will get all the votes, but I can say if elections are held the people will participate overwhelmingly”, he said.
“This fear is in BJP that is why ULB and Panchayat elections could not be held and there is no name of holding the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Abdullah said that those who are claiming normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir are misleading the people of the country.
”There is no normalcy, whosoever claiming are not only deceiving themselves, but also misleading the people of the country,” the NC vice president told reporters on the sidelines of a party convention in Bandipora district.
Abdullah said that there was normalcy in Rajouri during his tenure. “During the NC rule, Rajouri was almost clear from militants. I don’t remember that during my tenure there had been any such encounter at Rajouri,” he said.
“When you are talking about Rajouri, Kokernag or North Kashmir at places such encounters are seen here and there,” he said.
