BILLAWAR (KATHUA), Mar 24: Patron of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that his party is contesting Lok Sabha election with a progressive and visionary agenda to give voice to the aspirations and wishes of people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We are contesting elections with an agenda to send credible and trustworthy representatives in the Parliament so as to effectively highlight people’s issues in the highest forum of democracy”, Mufti said while addressing a meeting at Phinter area of Billawar assembly segment of Kathua district in support of party candidate for Udhampur-Doda seat Arshad Malik. Braving heavy downs and hostile weather, large number of people turned up to listen Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the meeting which was organised by Sudesh Sapolia.
He said that unlike other political parties politics of PDP is not confined only to attain power. “PDP is movement to change destiny of the people of Jammu and Kashmir’, he said and called upon them to elect candidates of PDP to further accelerate the campaign for change in Jammu and Kashmir. “Our fight is not against any individual, we are fighting on our own agenda”, he said and added that people of Jammu and Kashmir have endorsed PDP’s agenda.
He reminded the gathering that PDP had scripted a new chapter of peace and development in the State. He said that formation of PDP was landmark in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir because this party has revived people’s faith in the democratic institutions.
“Unlike other parts of the country, people of Jammu and Kashmir, for decades together, were not allowed to get the taste of democracy because NC had never allowed democracy to flourish here”, he said and added that it was PDP that has challenged the hegemony of NC and allowed the democracy to flourish.
“The way people of the state have been supporting our party is a clear indication that that there is no alternative of PDP in the state and this party is going to change destiny of the people by implementing its progressive and visionary agenda”, he said, adding, “change is imminent in Jammu and Kashmir because people have faith on the policies and programmes of PDP”.
He further said that PDP led regime had set an example of equitable and balanced development in Jammu and Kashmir. “Credit goes to the PDP led regime that first time after 1947, in the year 2002 all regions were treated equally in developmental and other activities”, he maintained and added that it was after 2002, serious efforts were made to empower all regions to remove the sense of inequality and discrimination.
He mentioned that it was only during the PDP led regime that governance consciousness was generated in the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the common masses had a taste of good governance.
