Doda, Apr 25: The district unit of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Doda has demanded setting up of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) in Doda and Bhaderwah towns so that the liquid waste coming out of these towns is treated scientifically before it enters into Chenab river.
PDP District President Doda Shahab Ul Haq in a statement has demanded that Government without any delay must set up these STP’s so that Chenab is protected from pollution and silent death.
” All the liquid and even solid waste coming out of houses and business establishments in Doda and Bhaderwah towns finds its entry into local nallahs and water bodies. In Bhaderwah town the Neeru nallah is fully contaminated which has lead to decrease in the fish population as well. Finally the water of Neeru nallah enters into Chenab river. In Doda town also the liquid waste coming out of town enters into river Chenab at Pull Doda and other areas. This is destroying the water and authorities especially local Municipality is in deep slumber”, said Shahab ul Haq
Haq also alleged that Doda Municipality is also not taking care of sanitation in the town as heaps of garbage can be found scattered here and there.
” Inspite of having funds available under Swachh Bharat Mission the local municipality has failed to utilize the same. The officials of municipality need to be trained and sensitized about scientific waste management so that door to door collection of waste is undertaken in a segregated manager and then treated at the processing site”, Shahab added.
