JAMMU, Jan 15: Veteran trade union leader and founder member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), S. Sukhvinder Singh today resigned from the primary membership of the party along with his supporters.
In a letter to party president Mehbooba Mufti, Singh said, with heavy heart he is resigning from the primary membership of the party due to infighting in the Jammu unit of the party.
He claimed that Jammu unit of the party has been virtually hijacked by outsiders who have nothing to do with the ideology of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
A handout stated that Sukhvinder Singh was one of the founder members of PDP who was associated with late Mufti Sayeed from the days of Janta Dal during 1980s.
When Mufti Mohammad Sayeed resigned from Janta Dal to join Congress in 1996, Sukhvider Singh also joined Congress as political disciple of Mufti Sayeed.
When late Mufti Sayeed formed PDP in year 1999, he was made chairman of labour wing of the party.
