SAMBA, Sept 5: Taking a lead from other political parties People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today kicked start campaign for the Lok Sabha elections by organising two impressive meetings at Samba and Vijaypur Assembly segments respectively. Campaign for election of Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat was started in the presence of all senior leaders of party.
Speaking on the occasion, PDP candidate for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, Yash Pal Sharma sought mandate of the people to vociferously raise their voice in the Parliament. Sharma regretted that present regime headed by Omar Abdullah has failed to solve problems of the people. He especially mentioned that residents of border areas were the worst victims of the wrong policies of the present Government because it has failed to take any step to minimize their woes.
Mr Singh informed the people that during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed there was complete peace on the borders because Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as Chief Minister had convinced both India and Pakistan to announce cease-fire on the borders. “During PDP regime there was peace on the borders from Kathua and Kargil”, he recalled and sought support of the people to pursue the policies of peace and reconciliation.
He further reminded that during the regime of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed adequate compensation was given to the farmers whose land was mined during border build up. He also pointed out that it was all due to the efforts of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that Industrial Growth Centre was opened at Samba which generated employment for locals.
Highlighting plights of the residents of Samba and Vijaypur Assembly segments, Mr Sharma said that being a refugee he was aware of problems of the displaced persons. He assured the gathering that PDP, if voted to power, would formulate a comprehensive policy for refugees for the one time settlement of all their problems.
Trilok Singh, Thakur Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Shanti Devi, Daman Bhasin, Fallail Singh, Jagjit Singh Jagga, Hussain Ali Wafa, Rashid Malik and other senior leaders also spoke on the occasion.
