Spike in Ladakh too: 85 new cases reported

JAMMU, Oct 9: Notwithstanding the Government claims that COVID-19 cases are on decline, Jammu region today witnessed sudden spike in Corona casualties with 17 persons succumbing to the virus including the PDP district president for Rajouri, who had retired as CEO Tourism Development Authority, another brother of BJP district president Rajouri Rajinder Gupta, a young 30-year-old RBI official from Trikuta Nagar whose marriage was scheduled on October 28 and a BSF Sub Inspector from West Bengal posted at Miran Sahib while 263 new cases were reported from the region and 546 patients recovered.
PDP district president for Rajouri Aijaz Ahmad Mirza, who hailed from Darhal and had retired in 2014 as CEO Tourist Development Authority Rajouri, died of COVID-19 in Fortis Escort Hospital Amritsar today, SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli told the Excelsior.
BJP district Rajouri president Rajinder Gupta lost his second brother to Coronavirus today, who was 63-year-old and hailed from Ward No. 11. He passed away at Dayanand Medical College (DMC) Ludhiana. Gupta’s younger brother had died of pathogen about a fortnight ago.
A 50-year-old vehicle mechanic from Ward No. 9 Old Bus Stand Rajouri who was symptomatic and under treatment for last 10 days in the Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri breathed his last this morning.
A 30-year-old youth from Trikuta Nagar posted in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was found dead inside his car near Mahamaya forests under mysterious circumstances and tested positive for pathogen posthumously. SHO Bagh-e-Bahu Inspector Kirti Sharma said exact reasons behind death of the youth are being ascertained.
A 52-year-old Sub Inspector of BSF’s 92 battalion headquartered at Miran Sahib and a resident of West Bengal died of the virus in the GMC Jammu. He had no other ailment.
A 52-year-old woman from Vasant Vihar Talab Tillo, who was co-morbid, a 65-year-old man from RS Pura and 60-year-old woman from Patoli Mangotrian, who were suffering from bilateral Community Acquired Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress, died in the GMC Jammu today. They were positive for the virus. A 90-year-old man from Talab Tillo who had multiple ailments and Coronavirus died in Ludhiana.
A 61-year-old man from Trikuta Nagar succumbed to the virus in Max Hospital Saket while a 70-year-old from Muthi died in the GMC Jammu this evening.
Five COVID casualties were reported from Poonch district today.
A 40-year-old man from Gohlad Mendhar in Poonch district, who was presently putting up at Nowshera in Rajouri district, died in the GMC Jammu while 73-year-old man from Khorinar passed away in the District Hospital Poonch. Two deaths were reported from Ward No. 17 with both the Corona victims breathing their last in Ludhiana hospitals, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said.
A man from Mastan Dara in Bafliaz area of Surankote tehsil, who was under treatment at SKIMS Srinagar died there of ailments and Coronavirus.
A 75-year-old man from Hatli Morh in Kathua district died of co-morbidities and COVID-19 in the GMC Kathua, according to District Magistrate OP Bhagat.
Meanwhile, 263 persons today tested positive for Coronavirus in Jammu region including 101 in Jammu district, 98 of whom were locals.
Thirty two fresh cases were reported from Rajouri district including 11 from Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University. They include one Lecturer and his four family members. Rest were the staffers. Among total positives of the district, 15 hailed from Kalakote, seven Rajouri, four Thanna Mandi, two each Darhal and Nowshera and one each from Sunderbani and Manjakote.
Of 15 positives in Poonch district, six were from Mendhar, four each Poonch and Mandi and one Surankote.
Among the positives in Reasi district, one was a staff member of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) while one each were pregnant woman, Health worker and police constable.
All 26 positive cases in Samba, 15 Kishtwar, eight Ramban and seven in Doda were locals while 25 out of 26 positives in Udhampur and 20 of 22 in Kathua were locals and rest travelers.
Meanwhile, 546 patients today recovered from the virus including 200 in Jammu district, 70 Poonch, 62 Samba, 52 Kishtwar, 50 Reasi, 45 Doda, 33 Udhampur, 19 Kathua and 15 in Rajouri district.
Jammu region now has 33048 Corona cases. Of them, 4989 were active positives while 27638 have recovered from the virus.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh reported 85 fresh Corona positive cases today.
Of them, 69 new cases were reported from Leh district and 16 from Kargil.
With this, Ladakh now has total 4987 Corona cases. Of them, 1038 are active while 3886 have recovered from the virus.
Ladakh has reported 63 Corona casualties including 26 from Leh and 37 Kargil.
