In this regard, a formal complaint has been filed by the Tehsildar Bijbehara to the Police Station Bijbehara naming the persons who organized the rally and ‘violating’ the COVID-19 SOPs. He urged the police to book the concerned persons for the violations immediately.
“…it is to intimate that following persons of People’s Democratic Party organized a large gathering on 7-01-2022 at the tomb of ex-CM Mufti Sayeed at Padshah Bagh Zirpara Bijbehara in complete violation of SOPs and COVID Appropriate Behaviour which may result in spreading of COVID-19 and other related epidemic,” read the letter written to the police.
Those against whom action has been sought as per law are Abdul Rahman Bhat (Veeri), Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, Najmu Saqib, Sartaj Madni, Majid Ahmad Khan, Abdul Majeed Rangraiz, Showkat Ahmad Teeli, Mufti Sarwar, Ashid Ahmad Ganai and Nazir Ahmad Vaid.
“As such you are directed to book these persons under the relevant Section of law with an intimation to this office immediately,” the communication read, a copy of which has also been sent to the Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag as well as SSP Anantnag.
Following the directives from the Tehsildar, the Police Station Bijbehera acted swiftly and registered an FIR against 10 PDP leaders vide number 4/2022 under Sections 188 and 269 for violating the COVID SOPs at the graveyard of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in South Kashmir’s Bijbehara. Meanwhile, in a tweet, soon after the registration of FIR against the PDP leaders, party chief Mehbooba Mufti lashed out at the Government for its alleged ‘bias’ against her party and said that COVID restrictions are not applicable anywhere but PDP.
“COVID 19 restrictions apply only to PDP. Not to BJP’s protest in Kashmir yesterday, PM’s rally in Punjab or the mass poojas attended by hundreds of people to pray for his safety. Talks volume about J&K admin’s brazen bias against my party,” she wrote in a tweet.
Earlier, she had said alleged that police ‘hounded’ her party workers and that the simple acts of praying were being ‘criminalized’.
“Meanwhile J&K police is hounding my party workers who dared to offer fatiha at his grave today. Outlawing & criminalising even a simple act of paying respect & tribute to one’s leader shows state administration’s deep paranoia & intolerance,” she said.
