PDP seeking mandate on basis of its performance: Mufti

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, Apr 18: Observing that there is a strong under-current in favour of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, patron of PDP Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that his party is seeking mandate of the people on the basis of its performance.
Addressing a function to welcome senior Congress leader Abdul Ahad Yatoo from Pattan who joined PDP along with his supporters today,  Mufti said that the Parliament elections are clearly poised for a contest between a non-performing incumbent Government and a party which had earlier proved its capability to change destiny of the people.
“People have recognized performance of the PDP and that is the reason that atmosphere is purely in the favour of our party in the whole State”, he said and added that people are anxiously waiting for the voting day to teach present coalition a lesson.
Referring to the anarchy in governance, Mufti said this prevailing mess has resulted in a total collapse of system in the State. He said while corruption is a major problem at the national level, in J&K it had the patronage of people in high places.  He added that this Government has failed on all fronts and every section of the society is bearing brunt of the misdeeds of this regime. “The present regime has miserable failed to do justice with the people as it has not fulfiled any of the promises made with the people during 2008 elections”, he observed, adding “corruption has crossed all limits during the last more than five and half years because there is no transparency and accountability in the governance”.
Reiterating that attaining power was not the only aim of PDP, Mufti recalled that after 2002 Assembly elections his party had entered into alliance with Congress when almost all the important demands of the party were incorporated in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP). “Unlike other parties we never compromised with our agenda”, he said and added that agenda of his party is to restore dignity and honour of the people and to provide justice to all sections of the society.
He called upon the people to compare performance of PDP led Government with decades long mis-governance of successive National Conference (NC) regimes. He said that as far as the performance of the present regime was concerned, it appears only on papers and nothing concrete was visible on ground.
Mufti said that PDP has set new and progressive standards of governance in the State during its brief rule but the present regime has failed to continue that standard.  He said that the people have started comparing the performance of the present Government with the PDP administration which augured well for democracy.  “Inability of the NC Government to respond to problems could have a negative fallout on the situation in the sensitive State”, he said and mentioned that since formation of this Government alienation among masses has been increasing.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Ahad Yatoo said that he has decided to join PDP due to programmes and policies of this party. He said that PDP is future of the State.  Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Abdul Rehman Veeri, MLA Bijbehara, Sayeed Altaf  Bukhari, Sayeed Basharat Bukhari, MLA,  Abid and others also spoke on the occasion.
