Srinagar, Aug 29: Apni Party chief and former Minister Altaf Bukhari today stated that if the PDP truly cared about Sarjan Barkati, they could have guided his family in filing the nomination papers.
Speaking to the media during a door-to-door campaign in his Assembly constituency, Chanapora, Bukhari mentioned that with proper guidance, no one could have rejected Barkati’s nomination.
“It would be foolish to say that one party or another raised objections to his (Barkati’s) nomination. The legal fraternity could have provided assistance, and the PDP, which is now talking about it, could have offered guidance. Then we would have seen who would have rejected his papers,” Bukhari said.
He emphasized, “We have a problem where we turn people into heroes verbally, but when it comes to action, we don’t come to their rescue when they need it.”
Regarding the door-to-door campaign, Bukhari said that the elections provide an opportunity to reconnect with people after 10 years. “It makes us aware of the issues they are facing, such as drainage and road problems.”
The Apni Party chief noted that in J&K, people are often taken for granted, emphasizing that real power lies with them. “I urge people to vote for change. You’ve tested leaders for 72 years; now it’s time to let new leadership come forward.”
