Mufti made these remarks while addressing the media at the party headquarters during the joining ceremony of prominent Gujjar leader and former MLA Chowdhary Qamar Hussain.
She noted that both Jammu and Kashmir and the PDP have faced challenging times over the past five years. “The situation is one of fear; people are facing hardships; there is a silence of a graveyard,” she said.
Mufti emphasized that increasing the number of people joining the PDP will not only strengthen the party but also amplify the voice of the people. “There is a need for dialogue; Mufti Sahab worked for peace with dignity. We want that peace in J&K,” she added.
She expressed her happiness at welcoming Chowdhary back to the party, hoping he will advance the party’s agenda and help strengthen it.
Chowdhary, who had been away from the party for some time after being expelled a few years ago, stated that the PDP is the only party that truly represents the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially since 2019, when the region was downgraded to a Union Territory.
He highlighted Mufti Muhammad Sayeed’s contributions to the people of Rajouri and Poonch, emphasizing their betterment. “He did a lot for us, be it the Mughal Road or Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University,” he said.
Chowdhary also praised Mehbooba for continuing to advocate for the people after 2019, despite facing challenges. “The way forward is to strengthen the party,” he added.
