SRINAGAR, Aug 3: Terming People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) road-map as a key to address political and socio-economic aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, patron of PDP Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that the tested and competent leadership of his party has capability to change destiny of the common masses by implementing revolutionary policies and programmes.
Addressing an impressive public meeting at Anantnag in connection with the foundation day function of the party, Mufti said that with the strength of just 16 MLAs in 2002, PDP had changed political discourse of the State and restored dignity and honour of the people.
“It was result of our convictions that successive Governments at New Delhi had supported whatever steps we had taken during our tenure”, he said and reminded that the previous NDA regime headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee and present UPA Government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh had endorsed PDP’s view point on Kashmir.
He further said that his party has pioneered a political and economic agenda to establish sustainable peace in the subcontinent and to fulfil wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the State “Our party, through its pro-peace policies, had consolidated reconciliation process and facilitated the efforts of establishing lasting peace in this region”, he said.
He mentioned that PDP had entered into alliance with Congress by formulating a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) in which wishes of all people were incorporated and pro-peace agenda was given first priority. He said that unlike other parties, PDP has never compromised with its agenda for enjoying power.
Quoting CMP which was formulated after PDP-Congress Coalition Government in the State in 2002, Mufti said that almost all objectives of PDP including release of all political prisoners, disbanding of Special Task Force, initiating unconditional dialogue with all sections of the society, restore dignity and honour of people were incorporated in the CMP.
Seeking support of the people to make Jammu and Kashmir as destination of peace, Mufti said that with the mandate of the people PDP would take its pro-peace agenda to the logical conclusion. He said that PDP’s roadmap has potential to solve problems of unemployed youth because this roadmap was prepared by incorporating aspirations of all sections of the society. PDP patron also promised to establish a full-fledged university, opening of medical college and construction of fly-overs at Anantnag.
