VIJAYPUR, Nov 10: Expressing his party’s resolve to bring total peace along borders and ensure cultivation in all border areas, former Chief Minister and patron of People’s Democratic Party, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that restoration of permanent peace along the Indo-Pak border and improving relations between the two neighbouring countries will be his party’s top agenda.
Addressing a largely attended public rally at Vijaypur town in district Samba today, Mufti Sayeed said that people from entire border area of Samba, Vijaypur, Hiranagar, R S Pura, Arnia and Akhnoor are badly affected with the firing. Many of them were forced to leave their homes and abandon cultivation in their fields. It is unfortunate that thousands of farmers of this border belt of Jammu region are facing hardships.
“I assure you PDP will create conducive atmosphere so that farmers of the border areas cultivate their land up to the zero line without any fear of bullets or shelling. My party will aggressively pursue its agenda of restoring lasting and sustainable peace on the borders,” Mufti maintained.
The PDP stalwart said, ” There is no reason to deprive farmers to cultivate their land which is located on that side of the border fencing. There is huge land of poor farmers lying
on that side of the border fencing. It is our commitment that atmosphere of peace and tranquility would be created on the borders so that residents of border area live with peace and can perform their agriculture activity without any fear or terror,” Mufti added.
Referring to his past experience during previous NDA Govt, Mufti Sayeed said PDP with just 16 MLAs in its kitty had proved during its tenure how to implement the agenda of peace and reconciliation. It was the result of PDP’s pro-peace agenda that the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had announced ceasefire on the borders and that initiative had brought positive changes in the lives of people from entire border belt from Lakhanpur to Kargil.
Mufti did mention the recent unpleasant incidents on the borders and asserted that PDP preached the message of peace and reconciliation from every nook and corner of the State to de-escalate tensions on the borders. He said the credit goes to his party to take both NDA and UPA on the board to initiate bold steps for restoring lasting peace in this sub-continent. “Through its agenda, PDP restored internal and external peace in this region”, he said.
Mufti said that his party had pioneered a political and economic agenda to establish sustainable peace in the sub-continent and to fulfill wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the State. While reiterating his commitment to focus on border areas to address grievances of the people, Mufti assured that PDP, if voted to power, would conduct on the spot direct recruitment for the unemployed youth of border areas.
He said that PDP would work on a multi-faceted programme for socio-economic growth of the residents of border areas who always bear brunt of the hostility between two countries.
“Creation of economic opportunities for border youth and special recruitment drive for them would be one of the agenda of PDP in its election manifesto”, he assured.
Predicting that PDP is going to form its own Government in J&K, Mufti said that change was imminent in the State and people were looking for an opportunity to give PDP a chance to form the new Government. “It is writing on the wall that PDP is going to form next Government in J&K. I want balancing act in Kashmir as well as in Jammu region. Jammu region should also contribute in the framing of his Government. We want to move without the support of crutches and deliver to the people in better way,” Mufti said and asked people to ensure victory of the party candidates in the coming Assembly elections.
While appreciating Prime Minister Narendra Modi for visiting Kashmir three times during floods and five times after taking over the Government at the Centre so far, Mufti said Modi wants to help affected people and launch relief and restoration work in big way but unfortunately due to trust deficit, things could not be delivered adequately. There were reports of misuse of huge relief material and funds. I do not want to say more on the subject but it is also true that Prime Minister is concerned about the issue and wish to deliver to the affected people of the State.
Mufti said that Modi is emerging as strong and popular leader in the country. He is capable of dragging country towards massive progress and development and making India as strong power in the world with his clear mission and vision. “We hope that like Atal Behari Vajpayee Mr Modi would be convinced with the PDP’s agenda of peace on borders and cordial relations with the neighbour,” Mufti Sayeed maintained.
Speaking on the occasion, senior PDP leader Vikramaditya Singh called upon the people to support PDP candidate to change the history of J&K. “PDP is the only party which has vision and agenda to address grievances of all sections of the society”, he said and added that PDP has been pursuing the agenda of inclusive growth and justice for all.
“Jammu and Kashmir is passing through a crucial juncture and it is need of the hour that hands of statesman like Mufti Mohammad Sayeed should be strengthened to get the State rid of prevailing chaos and uncertainty”, he said and reminded the people about historical steps taken by the previous PDP led Government in J&K to ensure justice with all regions and sub-regions of the State.
