JAMMU, July 8: Power Employees Coordination Committee (PECC) in an emergency meeting held today across various districts of Jammu Province and Kashmir strongly condemned the detention of leaders of the PECC in Kashmir who were protesting peacefully against the privatization move of the Government.
The democratic right of silent protest has been muzzled and this is a serious concern because the employees of Jammu and Kashmir are being deprived of raising genuine questions as far as their service rights are concerned. The Government amidst the pandemic has chosen to rake up the issue of privatization of Power distribution through its agenda of meeting circulated in the social domain which was bound to get reactions from the stakeholders. In view of this, the employees of PDD in Kashmir observed silent protest and were detained illegally and their whereabouts are not yet known.
The PECC strongly impresses upon the Government to hold parleys with the Power Employees Coordination Committee in order to instill confidence building measures among the employees. The unilateral approach of administration towards employee issues shall prove detrimental and if the employee unions are not heard, the Power employee’s coordination committee shall be forced to go on protest leave en-mass and the responsibility of repercussions of it would be upon the administration.
PECC appealed the Govt to shun the idea of Corporatization and focus on the infrastructure building across the Union Territory and take confidence building measures for motivating the employees across Power Development Department failing which PECC shall be forced to come on streets against unilateral privatization move.
