JAMMU, Feb 28: A pedestrian was knocked to death today by a speeding car in Sidhra area of city outskirts.
“Ali Mohd Mir son of Mohd Ramzan Mir, resident of Anantnag (at present Rangoora, Jammu) was walking towards his home after performing Friday prayers, when a speeding Santro car bearing registration number JK01Q-3632 hit and seriously injured him on National Highway near Iqbal Colony,” a police official said.
He said the mishap occurred today at about 3 PM and the car involved in the accident was being travelled by one Showket Hussain son of Fazal Ali, resident of Bemina (Srinagar), who immediately shifted the injured pedestrian to ASCOMS Hospital at Sidhra in a hired auto, leaving his car on the spot as it was badly damaged in the accident.
“The doctors at ASCOMS Hospital referred the patient to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where he expired after some time during treatment,” the official said, adding, the body has been shifted to mortuary room of the hospital and postmortem will be conducted tomorrow.
A case in this connection has been registered at police station Nagrota and the vehicle has been seized while further investigation is underway, the official further added.
