JAMMU, Jan 2: A pedestrian was today knocked to death by a speeding car in the jurisdiction of Police Station Gangyal.
Police sources said that one car (i 20) bearing registration number JK02CD-5450, driven in rash and negligent manner by an unknown person from Kunjwani towards Sainik Colony, hit a pedestrian near D Mart Kunjwani.
In the mishap, the pedestrian identified as Mohd Akram (70) son of Mohd Sultan, resident of Bandipora, received serious injuries. The victim was immediately rushed to KD Multi-speciality Hospital at Greater Kailash, where he succumbed to his wounds.
Later, the body of the deceased was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for postmortem while a case FIR number 01/23 U/S 279/337/IPC was registered in this connection and investigation started. Efforts were also on to nab the driver of the vehicle involved in the mishap as he fled away from the spot after committing the crime.
