‘Peepal Van’ launched to boost environment

JAMMU, July 27: Based on a unique concept to promote the environment in Jammu, a ‘Peepal Van’ (Peepal Garden) has been launched at Lakkad Mandi, Janipur by Department of Wildlife Protection J&K in collaboration with Peepal Saves People Foundation Trust.
The project will contribute to the overall environment of Jammu town besides adding aesthetics to it.
During plantation drive 130 Peepal including Glomerata and Bhargad trees were planted.
The concept of Peepal Van was an initiative by Sarvesh Rai, Principal Chief Wildlife Warden J&K.
Pritam Singh, founder president ‘Peepal Saves People Foundation Trust’ and Dr. Vishav Murti (Padam Shri Awardee) were also present on the occasion.
Sonam Chhewang, Senior Divisional Manager, LIC of India, Srinagar Division, in his address briefed about the historical importance and traditional relevance of Peepal Tree in Indian ethos, culture and Ayurveda.
Senior Officers of Forest Department who participated in the plantation drive on this occasion were Dr. Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Bishan Dass, Ilfit Ara, Vijay Kumar, Pankaj Raina, Sunil Kumar Attri, Saleem-ul Haq and a large number of volunteers.
The gathering was well attended by members of Manda Morning Walker Association, students from Degree College Parade and Crescent Public School Janipur.
