KATHUA, Dec 7: Provincial Electrical Employees Union (PEEU) held a protest demonstration at Sub-Division Basohli under the chairmanship of P C Sharma, president of Union in which hundreds of need based workers casual labourers and other employees participated.
The protestors raised slogans against Government for not releasing the long pending wages of need based workers and delaying amendment in SRO-520 of December 2017.
Latter a procession was taken out towards ADC Office, Basohli and the protestors also met the ADC for getting his response on the memorandum already submitted to him in the month of October.
While speaking on the occasion, P C Sharma said that 3405 need based workers are working on crucial assignments like lineman and SBAs in the Department and they are running 10 to 15 Sub Stations each with full risk to their lives. But till date Government including PDD authorities have not made any budgetary provisions for the payment of their long pending wages pending for five to 10 years. These daily wagers were in hope for their bright future but now they have been discouraged while seeing their future in shambles, he added.
Sharma said that the other sister departments like PHE, Forest etc. have released the timely budget for payment of wages of their need based casual labourers but PDD authorities did not take any initiative up to February 2014 to reflect the budget of such workers to Finance Department as a result 3405 workers who have been included in 60000 workers list with Government through Biometric identification or through hard copy have not been paid at par to their counterparts in other departments.
Sharma demanded amendment to SRO-520 by including following points allotment of proper designated with proper scale while their conversion in regular cadre, payment of wages to workers whose names have been forwarded in a hard copy and had not been paid like others, promotion avenue be created for those workers who are qualified having degrees/diplomas and all allowances be allowed at par with the NSP employees with benefit of SRO-43 be included in the policy.
