Pending compensation of refugees demanded

JAMMU, Oct 25: A meeting presided over by S. Karan Singh Bali, DGPC member from Jammu West and Dr. Surjeet Singh, president Gurudawara Kalgidhar Rehari was held in Gurudawara premises.
Martyrs of 1947 from Muzafferabad and other areas of PoJK were remembered in the meeting.
Speakers in the meeting said that brutal attack by Afghan Kabailies killed thousands of unaware, unarmed and innocent Sikhs and other non-Muslims on October 22 and 23, 1947 and robbed them physically, mentally and financially.
“The innocent people left their homes empty handed thinking that they will be back soon after the situation becomes normal but it never happened,” they maintained.
S. Karan Singh Bali said, at that time the administration gave assurance to refugees that they will be compensated for everything of which they left in PoJK but till 2014 nothing was done but after that a decision was taken by the present Government for one time settlement in which each family will be given Rs. 30 lakh compensation.
“An installment of Rs. 5.50 lakh was given to the refugees but there is no further information on the remaining compensation amount,” he further said.
Bali requested PM Modi to look into the matter.
Dr. Surjeet Singh requested J&K LG, Manoj Sinha and J&K MPs-Dr. Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma to take personal interest into the long pending demands of refugees.
Ownership rights to the refugees and other citizens of Jammu who constructed their houses on Nazool land was also demanded.
