Pensioners demand review of decision on mediclaim premium

JAMMU, Sept 26: The State pensioners have expressed grave concern over the recently announced mediclaim scheme for Government employees and pensioners under which the pensioners have to pay three times more premium than the Government employees per year.
In a joint statement, Senior Citizens and Pensioners Welfare Association, president, Mir Ghulam Rasool Butwani and Trade Union leader M K Tickoo said the policy is totally discriminatory towards the State pensioners.
They said while an employee has to pay a premium of Rs 8777 per annum which will be deducted from salary of the employee, the pensioners have to pay a premium of Rs 22229 per annum which is unfair and injustice with these hapless people among whom many receive a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 per month.
In an appeal to Governor, S P Malik they demanded that the decision be reviewed and pensioners premium amount be also made at par with Government employees.
