KATHUA, Oct 16: A large number of pensioners owing allegiance to J&K State Pensioners Association Jammu today staged a day long dharna in Bhagat Singh Park here to protest against the callousness of the Government towards their long pending demands.
The dharna was led by Balak Ram Sharma district president of the Association while Kabla Singh district president of Low Paid Employees Federation, Amar Nath Kewal Krishan, Hans Raj, P C Sharma, BC Sharma, Bikram Chand, Suraj Parkash and Anchal Dass were among the speakers who condemned anti people and anti working class policies of the Government resulting in steep hike in prices of essential commodities due to which employees pensioners and other sections of society are facing multifarious type of miseries and hardships for quite a long time.
The speakers alleged that the pension which was being paid on the first of every month is now being paid on 3rd and 4th or 5th day of the month thus putting the pensioners to miseries and hardships. They reiterated the demand that the pension should be paid on first of every month.
The other demands highlighted by protestors included immediate payment of 3rd installment of 6th Pay Commission arrears, which became due from April 1 this year, release of 10 percent DA installment in cash from July this year, issuance of orders for payment of pending 6 percent DA from January to June 2009, enhancement of Medical Allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 1000, restore commuted pension after 12 instead of 15 years were some other demands highlighted by the pensioners.
