Pensioners, senior citizens ask Govt to check rising prices

SRINAGAR, July 19: Pensioners and Senior Citizens Welfare Society J&K and People’s Revolutionary Welfare Society, Chairman Mir Ghulam Rasool Botvani has urged the Government to ensure the availability of essential commodities all over J&K as the general public are facing a lot of difficulties.
Addressing a meeting here today he said the fair price shops / stores established by the Government are not having Rice, Atta, Sugar so that the BPL and APL people can purchase ration from these stores, he added.
He said Government is aware that the rates of all essential items are sky rocking and it is not possible for poor/ lower class people, retired persons and senior citizens to purchase Rice, Atta and Sugar from open market on high rates which the people having limited source of income can’t afford.
He said the common man is already under pressure due to increasing rates of all other essential commodities including cooking gas, Tomatoes, Milk etc and administration is silent and public are suffering. The farmers are also in trouble as they don’t get remunerative prices for their fruit and crop in the market.
He urged the administration to monitor and control the rates of all essential commodities besides provide sufficient quantity of Rice / Atta and Sugar on fair price shops so that all APL and BPL and other needy people will not suffer.
The meeting was attended by general secretary, Sheikh Gh Mohiudin Shilvati, State secretary D N Sadhu and others.
