SRINAGAR, May 5: A meeting of Pensioners and Senior Citizens Welfare Society was held under the Chairmanship of its president Mir Ghulam Rasool Botvani in which threadbare discussions among the members were held on various issues.
The meeting in appeal to Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha urged him to settle the demands of pensioners and senior citizens.
It said that the Government is recovering the amount of commutation paid to pensioners at the time of retirement in 15 years along with the interest applicable. Actually the amount of commutation is recovered from the pensioners in 10 years and 8 months along with interests but Government is recovering this amount in 15 years in monthly installtments which is injustice. Against 10 lakh of commuted amount Government is recovering 17 lakh in 15 years from the pensioners which is 70% above on actual amount. The excess amount recovered from the pensioners needs to be returned by the Government to all the pensioners, besides recovery of commutation be stopped after 10 years .
It said that the Government of Gujarat Finance Department have restored commuted value of pension on completion of 13 years for which they have issued orders that recovery of commutation be made only for 13 years instead of 15 years. Further Punjab High Court on a writ petition No CWP 8222 – 2024/9426 – 2023 have passed the directions that further recovery shall remain stayed. Under these circumstances the pensioners & Senior Citizens Welfare Society UT of J&K requests for the similar treatment which has been given to Pensioners of Gujarat and Punjab.
It demanded that the 4% DA in favour employees and pensioners already due from 01.01.2024 be released as Central Government and other States have already released the same to their employees and pensioners.
The meeting urged Government to order enhancement of pension at the age of 65,70 and 75 years in favour of pensioners of J&K when various states have granted enhancement of pension. They demanded that the Medical Allowance be increased to Rs 1000/- at par with Central Government employees and pensioners.
The meeting also demanded issuance of senior citizens cards after age of 60 years.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Ghulam Mohiuddin Shilvati, general secretary, D N Sadhu State secretary , Comrade Baldev Raj and other members.
