JAMMU, Feb 20: Former MLA Jammu East, Yogesh Sawhney today said that people are well aware of the ground reality under BJP regime in J&K and now want total change which is imminent in near future.
In a public meeting at Ustad Mohalla, Ward No. 9 in Jammu to hear and address the concerns of the residents under the Mass Contact Program of the Congress party, Sawhney listened to the issues raised by Sikander Khan, Ward president and the locals, who apprised him of various problems and difficulties they have been facing in their area. They raised many serious issues including infrastructural concerns like poor sewerage, old pipeline, that have been troubling the residents.
Sawhney said that after hearing the concerns of the people, he realised that people are carrying a lot of resentment towards the Government because a lot of their problems have been ignored. The poor drainage and sewage system is a major health hazard and people are also worried about the attitude of the administration as they feel that it is very divisive. The quality of life is deteriorating due to the inaction of the appropriate authorities and many issues need timely redressal. People now know the reality of BJP Government and need a change. He said that the Congress party would continue to meet and discuss possible problems and their remedies with the people and strengthen the Mass Contact program, and include locals in the process through the Membership drive of the party.
The locals expressed worries over the lack of infrastructural development in their area. They said that the sewage system of the locality was not upto the mark due to non-improvisation of the system by the authorities. The drainage system is extremely messy, they said, and that often clogged and open drains present a serious health and hygiene issue. They further added that the pipeline running through the locality had been very old and hasn’t been replaced since years and that is also very problematic.
Prominent among those present included Pradeep, Jaipal, Mohd Farooq Rao, Allah Rakha Khan, Tariq Mirza, Mohd Pervez Dar, Javed Iqbal, Tariq Hussain Dar, Nazir Ahmed Mir and others.
