People of Bani-Basohli rue menace of stray dogs, monkeys

KATHUA, July 9: People of  Bani and Basohli  have appealed  the Government to take immediate steps against the prevailing menace of  monkeys and stray dogs in the area.
In a letter to the Government, through former minister Prem Sagar Aziz, the people of this  area   have said that the increased number of monkeys has become a great threat to them as they can not work in their fields and grow crops.  “These monkeys frequently enter our houses and attack human beings besides destroying  the crop in fields also ,” they said and added that because of the menace, villagers  have stopped to produce maize crop.
Further, the people have also drawn attention towards the menace  of stray dogs that have bitten around a dozen children within days in Basohli town.
Terming both the problems as great danger to human lives in  Bani-Basohli, Prem Sagar Aziz   urged the Government to take immediate action, which deemed fit so that public may not suffer further.
The former minister suggested that a special drive should be launched by the Municipal and Forest officials to downsize the number of monkeys and stray dogs.
