People block Jammu-Pathankote NH, demand regular water supply

KATHUA, Feb 11: Expressing their anguish, the residents of Mirpur and Dhana villages today held a protest demonstration against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for not supplying drinking water regularly by blocking the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway for around one hour.
Amid slogans against PHE authorities, the residents of village Mirpur blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway for around one hour. Long snarls of vehicles were witnessed during the protest.
The protestors alleged that the PHE authorities are not paying any heed towards their demand of regular water supply, which has created manifold problems to them.
They warned to intensify their protest if PHE Department failed to redress their drinking water problems at the earliest.
Later, senior police officials including SP Kathua rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators assuring to take up their issue with the concerned authorities for redressal.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
Meanwhile, the inhabitants of village Dhana also held protest against the PHE authorities.
The protestors assembled on Basholi-Billawar road and obstructed the traffic movement for around one hour. They were demanding regular supply of drinking water.
On getting information, police team from Lakhanpur police station rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
