People block National Highway in protest against increasing burglaries

KATHUA, May 25: The irate people held a protest demonstration in Chadwal township today and blocked National Highway for half an hour in protest against the thefts in the market and breaking of locks of four shops during last night.
They lifted the road blockade only after intervention of police when a team led by Dy SP border and SHO Rajbagh reached the spot and pursued the people to lift the Highway blockade.
The police assured the people that it will launch a man hunt to arrest the burglars.
The protestors said that for last two months thefts have increased in the area. They said that last night when the shopkeepers left for their residences, the locks of four shops were seen broken in the morning in Chadwal market and the burglars have decamped with cash and other goods from the shops.
They said with the increasing thefts in the area people are feeling insecure as there is no proper police vigil in the area. They warned that in case the police fails to arrest the burglars they will launch agitation.
The Rajbagh police has also registered a case and started investigations but till last reports no arrest was made.
