JAMMU, Nov 15: The irate residents of Pamposh Colony, Janipur including relatives and family members of Naresh Gupta a PHE daily wager who died at Ludhiana Hospital yesterday after a snake bite while performing his Government job early this month held a protest demonstration at Janipur and disrupted the vehicular traffic on Jammu Bantalab road for three hours.
The protestors including sizable number of women carrying dead body of PHE worker squatted at Main Stop Janipur and shouted slogans against the department. Wailing and sobbing the protestors were demanding compensation for the family and Government job to the next kin of Mr Gupta besides payment of his all pending dues.
The traffic was diverted via other routes from Muthi Naka and Tali More by the police. The commuters faced a tough time and traffic snarls were also witnessed at various places during this period.
Though police tried to pacify the protestors but they did not budge and demanded that they should be given an assurance by a senior officer of PHE Department that their demands will be accepted only then they will disperse and cremate the dead body.
Later SE PHE came to the spot and accepted the demands of the protestors in principle. On this assurance the protestors dispersed and traffic was restored on the road.
According to police Naresh was bitten by snake while performing his Government job early this month and he was immediately rushed to GMC Jammu for treatment in a serious condition. Later his family members shifted him to Ludhiana as his condition became critical day by day where he died yesterday.
