KATHUA, July 21: The Executive Engineer, Flood Control Division, Kathua has informed that due to ensuing monsoon season, the water level may rise in major rivers and nallahs including Ujh, Naj, Bhini and Ravi.
These rivers get swollen up due to storm/runoff water in relativity very short span of time owing to steep gradients and huge catchment area which results in flash floods in these rivers, thereby, wrecking havoc with life and property.
Therefore, the general public has been advised not to venture into these rivers/nallahs and restrain their livestock from entering these waterways during the rainy season to avert any mishap during sudden flash floods.
Likewise, the owners of trucks and trolleys have been advised to restrain themselves from venturing into rivers and nallahs for collecting extraction material from river beds during rainy season which is likely to last till ending September this year.
Flood Control Division, Kathua has also established a Sub-Control Room to monitor the situation and regulating flood discharges.
