JAMMU, July 8: There is no end to the condolence messages received by Daily Excelsior on the sudden demise of its Editor –in-Chief, Printer, Publisher and Owner, S D Rohmetra as a large number of condolence messages have been received by this office on the fourth day of his death today also.
His sudden demise has been unbelievable for the well wishers and readers of Excelsior all over the Globe.
Mubarak Gul, Advisor to Chief Minister, Jatin Bhat president Youth National Conference Minority Cell, Ashok Kaul Advisor YNC Minority Cell and chairman RDS Migrant Cell paid rich tributes to Mr Rohmetra. They while recalling his services said that Mr Rohmetra that he was an inspiration for budding journalists who worked very hard with honesty and dedication in the field of journalism. They prayed Almighty for the peace of departed soul.
Sharika Peeth Sansthan, Subash Nagar, held a condolence meeting today in which profound grief and shock was expressed over the sudden demise of Mr Rohmetra – the founder Editor of Daily Excelsior who by the dint of his hard work made it the largest circulated newspapers of the State.
The meeting, which was chaired by the president of the Sansthan, M K Jalali while recalling the role of Mr Rohmetra as an upright journalist said Excelsior stood with the displaced Pandit community during the last 23 years of exile and projected its problems farelessly. The entire community is shocked over his death. The meeting observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul and extended alls sympathies with bereaved family and staff of Daily Excelsior.
Socialist Democratic Party (SDP) organised a condolence meetings at Srinagar and here today to mourn the sudden demise of Mr Rohmetra. The meting at Srinagar was presided over by Ajay Sharma, its general secretary while at Jammu it was chaired by Sham Bhagat provincial president of the Party.
Meanwhile SDP chief Dr Darkshan Andhrabi who is outside the State has also sent a written condolence on the demise of SDR. She termed Mr Rohmetra as the doyen of nationalistic journalism in the State. She lauded his role for upholding the torch of objective and non reactionary journalism in the State when many of his contemporaries sold out their integrity to sensationalism and opportunistic attitude.
Dr Andrabi said that it was the vision of SDR that made his journalistic platform so popular that it represents the aspirations of common people throughout the State.
Ambrish Magotra former president Katra Municipality has also expressed his profound shock and grief over the demise of Mr Rohmetra and termed his demise a great loss to the civil society of Jammu in general and journalistic fraternity of the State in particular.
A condolence meeting was held by Akhil Bhartiya Rohmetra Mahajan Biradri Jammu at Devastan Nanak Nagar under the chairmanship of Jagdish Rohmetra.
The untimely demise of prominent and philanthropic doyen of Mahajan Rohmetra Biradri was deeply mourned by all members of Biradri. The irreparable loss to the Biradri can’t be replenished, a handout issued by the Biradri said.
It said the Biradri, whole-heartedly stands behind members of the grief stricken family.
Members and activists of Tanda Tiger Force (Porters of Kargil War 1999) from Tanda and neighboring villages met at Tanda today under the chairmanship of K P Singh to express heartfelt condolences to the family members of Mr Rohmetra over his demise. The meeting observed two minutes silences in his memory and prayed for the peace of departed soul. It said Mr Rohmetra was educated and enlightened who led the society by unbiased news reporting.
Members of Raj Tilak Celebration Committee Akhnoor met at Jeo Pota today to express their deep sympathies with family of Mr Rohmetra and staff of Daily Excelsior. The meeting prayed for the eternal peace of departed soul.
Basant Singh Saini chairman Cooperative Marketing Society Bishnah and its M D Ramesh Gupta have also expressed profound grief and shock over the demise of Mr Rohmetra and termed his death a great loss to the civil society of Jammu.
All J&K Plus 2 Lecturers Forum, District Udhampur has expressed its profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Mr Rohmetra. The district president of the Forum Arunesh Kumar and its general secretary Ashok Sharma on behalf of the district Udhampur unit conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed God to bestow courage to it to bear this irreparable loss.
It said Mr Rohmetra gave a lifetime of selfless service to journalism and left a powerful legacy of great dedication, distinction and dignity as a journalist. In his demise the people of J&K have lost a veteran journalist and a person par excellence and a void has been created which will be difficult to be filled.
Samajwadi Party Minority Cell J&K held a condolence meting today under the chairmanship of Inder Ji Labroo in which grief and shock was expressed over the demise of Mr Rohmetra.
J&K Squash Rackets Association, J&K Carrom Association, Hockey J&K, J&K Net Ball Association and J&K Ball Badminton Association office bearers in its meetings at different places today mourned the sudden demise of Mr Rohmetra and conveyed their condolences to bereaved family.
Sumitpal Singh and Prinkle Singh Tennis Players of J&K have also expressed their profound grief and shock over the sudden demise of Mr Rohmetra. They prayed for the peace of departed soul and convyed their heart felt condolences to bereaved family.
Raj Nath Raina, former chairman Migrant Teachers Welfare Association and a trade unionist has expressed his profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Mr Rohmetra.
He termed him a pioneering journalist and recalled the services of Daily Excelsior in highlighting the problems of the displaced employees and community in general during nineties under the stewardship of Mr Rohmetra.
Sahyog India held a condolence meeting at R S Pura in which 105 children adopted by the organization offered prayers for departed soul. The members of the organization paid floral tributes to departed soul on the occasion and highlighted his contributions.
Dr Ashwani Jojra a well known social activist reflected MR Rohmetra’s contributions for marriage of orphan daughters and holding of eye surgeries mega camps in the border areas.
He termed Mr Rohmetra a great personality whose support helped in strengthening Sahyog India. Sumit Pal Singh and Prinkle Singh from Chandigarh have also expressed profound grief and shock over the demise of Mr Rohmetra and conveyed their condolences to bereaved family. The due also prayed for the peace of departed soul.
J&K State Olympic Association has also mourned the demise of Mr Rohmetra and has conveyed their heartfelt condolences to bereaved family.
The Association in a condolence meeting here today held under the chairmanship of its president S Rangil Singh said Mr Rohmetra’s demise was a great loss to the State.
Dr Ashtosh Sharma hony’ Secretary General of the Association recalled his long association with Mr Rohmetra. Two minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect to departed soul.
Shiban Khebri a free lancer while paying tributes to Mr Rohmetra highlighted his services to the displaced community in projecting their problems and issues. He said SDR’s demise was a great loss to the journalist fraternity in particular and society in general. He said Mr Rohmetra left an indelible mark on the society with his dedication to the job, fearlessness and by maintaining high standards of professionalism.
Vidya Jyoti Model High School, Indira Colony Janipur held a condolence meting under the chairmanship of its Principal in which rich tributes were paid to Mr Rohmetra.
J&K Society of Technocrats held a condolence meeting to pay tributes to Mr Rohmetra. The statement issued by I C Jandial its secretary general said that the members of the society have expressed their shock over the untimely demise of Mr Rohmetra and recalled his helpful attitude towards the engineering and technocrat fraternity.
All Ranks of District Police Poonch expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Mr Rohmetra whom it termed a doyen of journalism. The district police has prayed for the peace of departed soul and courage to bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
S N Raina a freelancer has also expressed his shock over the demise of Mr Rohmetra.
All J&K Pensioners Association in its meeting under the chairmanship of Madan Lal Abrol its general secretary has expressed profound grief and shock over the demise of Mr Rohmetra. He said his demise is not only a loss to the family but also to the pensioners and employees of the State.
Pratiyogita of Department of Political Science University of Jammu has also paid tributes to Mr Rohmetra. She said his demise was a great loss. She termed Mr Rohmetra an institution in himself and an inspiration for budding journalists in the State.
