SRINAGAR: People continued to throng in large numbers the Fairview residence at Gupkar as well as the hometown of Bijbehara today to offer condolences on the passing on of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, former Chief Minister.
Several party leaders received the steady stream of mourners, who conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved family members in their hour of grief. Former Ministers, Parliamentarians, Legislators besides former Chief Secretary, Iqbal Khandey and Chairman, J&K Bank, Mushtaq Ahmad, were among various prominent figures to offer their condolences.
Several delegations, representing trade and travel bodies, members of civil society, besides hordes of people from across the state also made a beeline at the Gupkar residence today to express solidarity with the bereaved family.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, Mohammad Mahmood Ali, had yesterday called on Member Parliament and PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti, at her residence and conveyed condolence on the demise of her father. He also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family members and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the departed soul place in Jannat-ul-Firdous.
Quran Khwani and special prayer meetings continued for the whole day today at the Srinagar residence of the visionary leader. Several people also spoke on the occasion throwing light on his life and the huge contribution he made in the development of the state.
Meanwhile, sea of mourners also continued to throng the ancestral residence of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at Baba Mohalla, Bijbehara. People from far and wide recalled the contribution of their beloved leader in changing their socio-cultural profile. Many Legislators and former ministers also visited the place and offered personal condolences.
People were seen moving in large numbers towards Dara Shikoh Bagh where the late leader has been laid to rest and offering Fateha. Many people were seen sobbing while offering their tributes to their beloved leader.
As reported earlier, congregational prayers (Fateha) of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed will be offered at 11.00 am at his final resting place, Dara Shikov Bagh, at Bijbehara on January 10 while as condolence meeting will be held on 2.00 pm at the Srinagar residence the same day.
