MENDHAR, June 22: People living in village Daryada, situated along the border in Mankot tehsil of Mendhar Sub Division have been craving for drinking water since last 40 years.
Despite assurance, nothing concrete has been done for the people living in this bordering village by the Government or by the elected representatives of their area.
The residents said that they have to walk around five kilometers on foot to fetch the drinking water, which is a big problem for them.
Non-availability of drinking water is the biggest problem being faced by the residents of village Daryada, but no one from the administration bothers about it, a local resident Jangir Hussain said, adding that on the one side the Government claims of implementing various schemes for the benefit of the masses, but on the other side fails to make the drinking water available to the residents.
“Even in the 21st century, we are carrying the drinking water on horses”, Hussain said, adding that they pleaded their issue before the officials of PHE Department several times, but nothing has been done till today.
“The elected representatives of our area also turned blind eye towards our issue”, he alleged.
Adnan Ahmed, the student of the village said that they got to fetch water from adjoining village and for that they have to take leave from the school. “We know studies are must in the present times, but drinking water is also a need to live”, he added.
The villages have appealed to the LG Jammu and Kashmir to look into the issue and direct the PHE Department authorities to do the needful in this regard.
