JAMMU, Mar 5: Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Vikram Malhotra has alleged that people have been deprived of ration under National Food Security Act.
A deputation of people belonging to Christian community led by Mr Malhotra called on Additional Deputy Commiss-ioner, Jammu, Rifat Kohli and submitted a memorandum highlighting the depriving of a large section of people of ration under the National Food Safety Act (NFSA) in Jammu.
During meeting Malhotra informed that the ration card tickets showing the income of Rs 2000 or Rs 3000 have also been excluded from the priority category and that those working in private sector and the daily wagers, who are earning a meager income of just Rs 3000 to Rs 4000, have been excluded, which is a great injustice with the most deserving people of Ward No 7 of Jammu East constituency, that is mostly inhabited by people of Christian community.
Mr Malhotra apprised the ADC Jammu that not even a single family of Christian community of Ward No 7 has come under AAY, BPL or even the PH category. It was also pointed out during the meeting that according to NFSA guidelines Rs 1.75 Kg rice per person and wheat @ Rs 3.25 Kg per person is very less quantity for the survival of a family.
Michael Wazir, general secretary, District Congress Committee (DCC), Urban, urged upon the ADC Jammu that instead of wheat grains, flour be provided to the consumers as it was being made available in the past as it is very difficult to get the same grinded from the market.  He also appealed that the concerned authorities should conduct physical verification of those, who have been excluded from the priority category so that the deserving people of Ward No. 7 are not deprived of necessary rations.
The ADC listened to the deputation patiently and assured that necessary action will be taken to resolve the issue.
