People facing brunt of long power cuts: Manjit

VIJAYPUR, June 1: Former Minister and District Congress president from samba Manjit Singh today appealed the administration in Jammu division to resolve the issue of unscheduled power cuts in rural as well as urban areas of Samba district.
“It is unfortunate that people are made to suffer because of unscheduled power cuts in Vijaypur and Samba especially farmers,” Manjit Singh said while addressing party workers meeting in Vijaypur.
“When the mercury touching over 42 degree Celsius, the people have been left without electricity and hence, water supply also remains affected for days,” he alleged, while citing example of the border areas.
In border areas, he claimed that before the paddy season, the Government should ensure the electricity is streamlined and tale end villagers provided with adequate supply of waters for the cultivation of crops as well.
He said canal water is not possible to pump into the fields without electricity. He claimed that 13-14 hours of power cuts have become unbearable to the people. He said that the administration should seriously resolve the problem to end the suffering of the people.
Referring to the residents of Pakistan occupied Kashmir and Chhamb, Manjit Singh said that the Government should open the seats reserved in the Legislative Assembly belonging to PoK residents.
“These people need to be represented by their own people. And, their seats should be opened so that they can elect their representative and their demand can be projected,” he added.
