JAMMU, Jan 20: Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today said that peace and governance have taken a big hit under the BJP Government in Jammu and Kashmir.
“While the present insensitive dispensation has plunged J&K into unprecedented crisis, the development has come to a grinding halt and governance at the lowest ebb”, Bhalla said while interacting with party workers in Gandhi Nagar Assembly Constituency.
The former minister said due to wrong policies of BJP, normal life in entire J&K is in jeopardy, especially as the Government has lost will to govern. The lack of political direction has terribly impacted the administration that is seen wanting in every sector. He referred to the administrative breakdown, developmental paralysis and poor condition of utility services in most parts of Jammu. This has made the life of people, particularly in the Jammu region miserable. Similar is the scenario with respect to rations, provision of agriculture inputs to farmers and lack of basic minimum necessities to the people, Bhalla said, adding that the people are disillusioned and disenchanted with the present Government.
Quoting an example of misgovernance of BJP, Bhalla said that on the name of rationalizing, BJP Govt closed down more than 1300 schools in Jammu division.Of these schools, which were closed down, 334 were in Jammu district, 158 in Samba district, 347 in Kathua, 123 in Kishtwar, 26 in Ramban, 159 in Rajouri, 162 in Reasi, 189 in Doda, 130 in Poonch and 264 in Udhampur. BJP made poor students to suffer by closing down such a big number of schools.
Bhalla said that all the promises made to the people prior to the Parliament elections remained unfulfilled. Considerable time has passed but they have failed to fulfil any of the promises, be it the problems faced by the border residents, problems faced by the farmers, refugees and Kashmiri Pandits, this Government has done nothing to address those problems,” Bhalla said.
Congress leader expressed concern over silence of the Centre and said Jammu and Kashmir appears to be the last priority for it. He said the past five years have exposed the BJP, which did not only betrayed people of Jammu but also contributed in the neglect of Jammu.
