JAMMU/KATHUA, June 26: To lodge their protest against the erratic power and water supply, people in various parts of Jammu staged a protest against PDD and PHE Department, here today.
The residents of Ward No 19, resorted to protest demonstration against the Power Development Department (PDD) and Jal Shakti Department (formerly PHE) for their failure to ensure uninterrupted power supply and adequate water supply respectively, in the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions.
A large number of protesters including women participated in the protest and raised slogans against the PDD and PHE.
The residents complained that both the departments have failed to ensure regular power as well as water supply in their locality. The agitators demanded uninterrupted and adequate water supply.
Meanwhile, irate over the scheduled and unscheduled power cuts, the residents New Plot led by Sunil Dimple also staged a protest against the Power Development Department.
A large number of people took part in the protest to express their anger against the department. Raising slogans against the PDD, the protestors said that they are facing acute power shortage.
Among others who participated in the protest included Rekha Devi, Renu, Shila devi, Koushlya devi, S Partap Singh, Vijay Sharma, Sanjay Mahajan, Bishan Das, Gopal Das, S Pedro, Vijay Sharma, S Mangu Singh, Kala Kumar and others.
The residents of Durga Nagar, Sector One and Sector Two and other adjoining areas of Ward No. 64 held a massive protest against the acute water crisis facing the people.
The protest was held under the banner of Welfare Coordination Committee (WCC) against the Jal Shakti Department for its callousness towards the people of area, who are constantly facing water scarcity for a long time.
The protestors raising slogans hold the Department responsible for the plight of the people.
Meanwhile, the BJP district president, Jammu rural Omi Khajuria also took the Jal Shakti Department to task for the water crisis in Barnai and adjoining areas.
He said the motor at Barnai Pump Station develops snag often and water supply to the various areas of Ward 65 get affected for days together.
Troubled by the power cuts amid, the scorching heat, hundreds of people from Gangyal, Ekta Vihar, Bawaliana, Ward no. 56 blocked the Jammu Pathankot National Highway and raised the slogans against the PDD Department.
People raised their voices that Gangyal blocked the National Highway against their demand. Due to the closure of the highway, long queues of vehicles were formed.
Speaking on the occasion, State Congress Committee General Secretary and former Jammu Municipal Corporation Chairman, Satish Sharma said that the condition of children’s and the elderly is severe bad in this scorching heat.
Irritate residents of Kalibari area also blocked the Jammu-Kathua National Highway at Kalibari and register strong protest against the shortage of power supply and drinking water.
The residents including women in large numbers disrupted the traffic movement on busy Highway. They were raising slogans against the concerned Departments.
One of the protesters told that they are facing power curtailment since last three days. The transformer is burnt out and its is very difficult to face the heat in such hot days.
