People in Leh shiver as minimum dropped to minus 9, several roads closed

LEH :   People continued to shiver as minimum temperature dropped further in the Ladakh region, where several roads were closed due to fresh snowfall.
Majority water bodies in the region were also frozen and authorities have stopped water supply through pipes because of below freezing temperature.
A Met department spokesman said Leh recorded coldest night of the winter when the minimum dropped to lowest minus 9 degree, four degree less than yesterday when it was minus 5.2 degree. However, the lowest so far was recorded on November 4 when it was minus 8.
Heavy snowfall has forced authorities to suspend traffic  on Leh-Manali and Leh-Nobra and other roads. This year the roads were closed due to early snowfall. The roads have become slippery as snow had got frozen.
The border town of Kargil on Srinagar-Leh national  highway, which was through, recorded minus 6 degree two degree less than yesterday when it was minus 4 degree.
However, temperature of nearby Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, was not available, Met spokesman said.
