People in Kishtwar villages facing scarcity of ration: Bhandari

JAMMU, May 14: The Congress leader and member Civil Society Kishtwar, Shamsher Singh Bhandari today expressed serious concern over scarcity of food grains in far-flung areas of Kishtwar and Doda districts district like Marmat, Wadwan and Padder.
In a statement issued here today, he said the people in these localities have not been provided ration for last three months. He said even the sugar for last three months was not given in various areas of Kishtwar district while the people are also facing the scarcity of Kerosene oil.
Bhandari said that in various areas of Kishtwar the power cuts remain for over 18 hours a day while in the main town the people face many hardships due to unscheduled power cuts.
The Congress leader while highlighting other problems of the people demanded that immediate steps be taken to save environment from pollution by planting trees along the Jammu -Kishtwar Highway and hill tops in entire Chenab Valley.
He said that deforestation has harmed the ecology which led to ecological imbalance and became the cause of natural calamites like cloud bursts and floods. Bhandari said that environmentalists should pay an attention towards the same and work for ecological balance by launching a public awareness campaign all over the State.
