JAMMU, Nov 2: Joint Action Committee, Residents Around Airport Jammu, today demanded proper rehabilitation and resettlement of families living around Jammu Airport before eviction.
Addressing a press conference here today, core members of the Joint Action Committee including Lt Col PS Raina (general secretary) and Dalip Kumar (secretary) said that for last about 17 years people living adjacent to airport terminal building are being harassed for land acquisition by the authorities.

They said while two open land spots were available for extension of Jammu Airport towards north end (Belicharana), the authorities denotified these open spots and kept out two mohallas for acquisition, for reason well known to the authorities. “They willfully kept built-up area for taxi stand which is against the national policy for acquisition when the open land was available,” they said, adding, this needed denotification as the terminal building was to be shifted to Belicharana.
The committee members said though the process for rehabilitation/resettlement of their families started in 2011 but till date authorities failed to complete it. “First Government gave plots of 10 marla each to 61 affected families in Belicharana (Jammu) but later the proposal was made to bifurcate their 2 mohallas and allot plots of size 6 marla/8 marla in far flung Chowadi/Sunjuwan area,” they said, adding such a proposal is totally against the national policy on rehabilitation/resettlement.
The JAC members said they are being tortured by the authorities by sending eviction notices almost every week though their rehabilitation has not been done. They demanded rehabilitation and resettlement before eviction and fair compensation of their land and houses under the Right to Fair Compensation Act 2013.
