RAJOURI, July 21: The people from Suhana, Mankote and Mubarakpura areas of district Rajouri today lodged their strong protest with the District administration as the PMGSY road providing connectivity to about five villages of the area has been abandoned by the contractors for the last over four years.
A delegation of the people from the area led by two Sarpanchs and several Panchayat members besides, prominent persons met DC Rajouri Shabir Ahmed Bhat and lodged their strong protest. They alleged that about 6.5 kms PMGSY road was sanctioned from Mubarakpura to Sunana village via Mankote about seven years ago. Some earth work was done on the road and then, a contractor from Jammu area engaged for the purpose, abandoned the work of black topping of the road.
They said no retaining walls were raised or drains were constructed. The rain water enters into the houses of the people. Due to landslides, the road has been turned into shambles and concerned PMGSY officers did not bother despite, repeated reminders. They demanded that new contractor be engaged and road work be completed without any delay.
The DC then, called the Executive Engineer PMGSY Rajouri and directed him to get in touch with the contractor and blacklist him if he refuses to take up work and re-tender the work and handover the remaining work to some other party.
