JAMMU, Feb 21: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), national general secretary, Incharge J&K, Tarun Chugh today accused the Congress, National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of “putting J&K into flames with their wrong policies.”
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a party meeting here, today, Chugh alleged that the people of J&K are paying for the blunders of these three parties. He said that during 1987 and 1988, the then Governor of J&K, Jagmohan had sent many letters to then Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi informing his Government about the deteriorating situation in Kashmir and his apprehensions that militancy may engulf the erstwhile State if corrective steps were not taken but the Congress Government at Delhi failed to take any cognizance of the same.
While decrying the role of Congress, he said these all letters are in public domain in Delhi at present. He said instead of taking a preemptive action, Congress later opposed Jagmohan and this resulted that Kashmir was engulfed by militancy in 1989-90 when National Conference and Congress were ruling in alliance in the then State and Dr Farooq Abdullah was heading the Government.
He said during this time the Kashmiri Pandits were made target by militants and many members of the community were killed resulting into their mass exodus.
Holding all three parties responsible for mass exodus of KPs , Chugh said while Dr Abdullah led NC and Congress coalition was ruling in J&K at that time PDP founder, Mufti Mohamed Sayeed was Home Minister of the country then.
Chugh, while lambasting these parties and their leaders, said the people of J&K will neither forget nor forgive them for their sins committed against the people of the erstwhile State.
Making a scathing attack on Congress and its vice president, Rahul Gandhi, Chugh said no party leader including Rahul could visit Gulmarg for skating during the 10 year long Dr Manmohan Singh led UPA Government and taking part in skating there. It was only after Narendra Modi led Government restored peace in trouble -torn Kashmir that Congress leaders visited Gulmarg for skating and to make merry, he added.
He also took a dig at PDP chief and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti who visited Raghunath Bazaar yesterday saying that Mehbooba and her late father Mufti Mohammed Sayed did not talk earlier and condemn the militants attack on this holy temple and even they did not bother to visit the area at that time.
“They have double standards,. The dreaded militant and mastermind of Parliament attack Afzal Guru was a hero for them”, he alleged. “Even Congress gave red carpet welcome to JKLF militant, Yasin Malik and treated him like VVIP during the UPA rule at Delhi,” he added.
These three parties have looted the resources of J&K and were responsible for over three decade long turmoil of the erstwhile State, Chugh said.
Later, addressing the meeting Chugh laid stress on the importance of strong organizational network at the ground level. To achieve this purpose, he asked the party leaders to ensure “Booth Sashaktikaran” well before the coming elections. He asked the party leaders to strengthen the party at the polling booth level and constitute different teams at the district, constituency and booth levels.
He also lambasted Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi and former J&K Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti for playing deceptive and devastating politics with the people of J&K. He said that these leaders used Article 370 as a shield against their corrupt practices.
Besides Chugh, J&K BJP president, Ravinder Raina, J&K BJP general secretary (Org.) Ashok Koul, Seh-Prabhari J&K BJP, Ashish Sood, J&K BJP general secretaries Vibodh Gupta and Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal addressed meeting of senior party functionaries held at party headquarter, Trikuta Nagar, here.
In the meeting, “Booth Sashaktikaran Abhiyan” was discussed threadbare by the senior party leaders.
Party Seh Prabhari, Ashish Sood said that the entire organization should get involved in the whole exercise to reach the booth-level workers and the prominent persons. He added that the party leaders must know the exact ground reality about the implementation of public welfare schemes initiated by the Modi Government to ensure strong faith of the masses on Modi Government.
Sood asked the party men to contact every section of society including minorities and people from downtrodden communities take stock of their problems and apprise them of the public welfare revolutionary schemes launched by Narendra Modi Government.
Ravinder Raina, while addressing the party leaders, stressed that the party will only be strengthened when the organization will be strong at booth level. He said that during this “Booth Sashaktikaran Abhiyan” party’s base will be strengthened with the visit of senior leaders to every house in the region.
He said that under this Abhiyan, the party leaders will approach all the needy as well as the beneficiaries in the society, and will hold major joining programmes and mega rallies in all the Assembly constituencies in the UT. He added that every BJP activist is ready for elections and they must work incessantly for ensuring the historic and grand win of the party in elections.
Ashok Koul spoke on the importance of booth teams and their important role in elections. He also spoke on the principles laid for the constitution of “Booth Sashaktikaran Abhiyan” teams at all levels. He stressed the teams constituted must reflect the party’s principle.
Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal conducted the program proceedings.
