UDHAMPUR, Jan 4: The local villagers and school students from Rathian (Battal) held protest and blocked Udhampur – Battal Ballian road against increasing pollution level in the area by Red category industrial units.
The people assembled on the main road near Industrial complex and started protest demonstration against the District Administration and District Industries department.  They alleged that several cement and pesticide units installed in this area are creating massive pollution.
They said the Udhampur Administration had committed development of the area by taking suitable measures but about 15,000 souls have been left to suffer. 15 Red category units have been installed which have created huge pollution. There is no proper check by SPCB authorities. There are three schools near the area and the District Administration has not taken care of the health condition of children and other people.
Suram Chand Sharma, General Manager, DIC Udhampur, said that genuine demand of locals regarding increasing pollution level due to cement industrial units, will be taken care of shortly.
