MENDHAR, Oct 21: The people from Sangiot area of Gursai in tehsil Mendhar held protest demonstration against police and demanded that girl allegedly kept in custody of police be handed over to the family.
The villagers and relatives of the girl Rabia Kouser claimed that she was allegedly kidnapped by an army soldier and later they married in a court at Bangalore. The girl however was later recovered and the parents remarried her some where else in the same area in own community. The girl refused to go to the house of second husband and submitted before court that he wanted to live with her first husband in Bangalore. On this the court directed the police to keep the girl in police custody for finally sending her to the place where she wants to live as she was adult.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the girl started protest demonstration in front of Police Station for over 2-3 hours and demanded that girl be handed over to the parents.
Later, the matter was resolved with the intervention of local MLA Rafiq Khan and SDM Mendhar. The people lifted dharna at around 2 pm.
