People protest against power, water crisis

POONCH, June 25: Residents of Kanuyian and adjoining areas held strong protest demonstration against the PDD and PHE Departments and also District Administration for alleged water and electricity crisis in the area.
About 200 villagers led by village Sarpanch, Siraj Din assembled near Sher-e-Kashmir bridge here today and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against PDD and PHE officers including Chief Engineers and Executive Engineers concerned.
The agitating people alleged that area public was badly suffering due to poor supply of water and power. They said no alternative water supply arrangements have been made and moreover, due to prolonged power cuts, the public is badly hit.
During protest some elements also raised pro-Azadi slogans but they were later snubbed by some villager elders. The police has taken cognizance of the matter. The protesters disrupted movement of traffic for about half-an hour, however, with the intervention of police, the traffic was restored on the Jammu-Poonch road.
