MENDHAR, Mar 13: The residents of  Mendhar town including several Panchayat members today held protest against the Department of RDD and Panchayati Raj for poor insanitary conditions in the Mendhar town.
The people led by Naib Sarpanch Mohd Aslam came out on the roads and raised slogans against the local BDO and other staff. The people alleged that unlike MCs or other Local bodies, the cleanliness and maintenance of drainage system is looked after by the PDD/ Panchayats Department. They even charge Adda fee from the vehicle operators and other fee from locals but no proper cleanliness is maintained by the department. The heaps of garbage are often seen scattered in the main bazaar  and other localities. The drains are choked and the concerned officials of this department are hardly bothered.
They pointed out that concerned BDO and staff were apprised of the situation but no improvement has been witnessed.  Only 13 Safaikaramcharis are there in the town to carry out works and they too, are without wages for the last three months. They have also gone on strike for the last three days. They sought the intervention of DC Poonch and Director RDD, Jammu, into the matter.
