JAMMU, Mar 2: Alleging dilly delaying practice adopted to redress public issues, the people of Chowki Choura and its surrounding areas held protest against the officers of the Sub Division Chowki Choura.
As per sources, a large number of people from Chowki Choura and its surrounding areas assembled on Jammu-Poonch highway and held protest against the officers of the Sub Division Chowki Choura.
Amid slogans in favour of their demands, the protestors also blocked the vehicular movement on the highway.
While speaking, the protestors said that the concerned Tehsildar and SDM of their area are not cooperating with the people.
“We visit the offices of the concerned Tehsildar and SDM to get our works done, but they don’t pay any heed”, they said, adding that the memorandum of demands was submitted on February 25 with a warning to hold protest today, if demands not redressed, but despite that the officers don’t bother and we have been compelled to come on road.
When contacted, BDC Chairman Chowki Choura Rahul Dev Sharma told that the people of Chowki Choura and surrounding areas are facing numerous problems including scarcity of drinking water and unscheduled power cuts.
He demanded compensation for the land acquired for the extension of the highway, detachment of the teachers from Tehsil Office as schools have been opened and opening of mining blocks. He also demanded regular water and power supply.
BDC Chairman warned to protest in aggressive manner if their issues are not resolved in the shortest possible time.
On witnessing the situation getting worse as hundreds of vehicles got stranded on the highway due to protest, the ADC Jammu rushed to the spot and assured the people of getting their pending works done in the shortest possible time.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
Sarpanches Ravi Kumar, Baldev Raj, Chuni Lal, Madan Lal, Meena Devi and Bua Ditta, Naib Sarpanches Vijay Kumar, Subash Chander and other prominent persons including Doulat Ram, Romesh Chander, Rakesh Kumar and large numbers of panches were present during the protest.
