People protest as leopard creates terror

JAMMU, Nov 30: People from Siari and Kewal areas of Budhal in Rajouri today held protest against the Wild Life authorities and District Administration as a full grown leopard has created terror in this entire belt for the last several weeks.
The people from Siari, where a 6-year-old boy was picked up by leopard from his compound and killed, came out on Rajouri-Budhal road and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the Wild Life Department authorities for not neutralizing the wild beast despite several requests. The people said that this beast has killed over two dozen cattle/ sheep/goats and a boy and the people have stopped coming out from their houses after dusk. Even the people hesitate to work in the fields these days. Entire area has been reeling under terror.
Later, Tehsildar and SHO concerned reached the spot and they assured to take up the matter with the senior Wild Life officers. The people then lifted dharna after an hour.
Reports from Ramnagar said that a leopard created terror when it was spotted in the lanes of Ward No. 1 and 2 in the Ramnagar town last night. The people traced this wild beast around 8.15 pm. The people confined themselves inside their houses. They burnt crackers to make the leopard to escape to the nearby forest. This is third time that this leopard entred town in last two months. The people have urged upon the Wild Authorities to neutralize the wild beast posing threat to the people.
