People protest at Chak Salaria, block road against power cuts, increasing burglaries

SAMBA, July 16: The irate residents of five villages of Panchayati Chak Salaria held a demonstration at Kralian Chowk and blocked the Vijaypur –Ramgarh road in protest against the power failure and increasing thefts in the area.
Over a strong crowd of over 1000 people including men, women and children squatted on the road and did not let any vehicle to pass.
They were protesting against the increasing power cuts and thefts in the area. Shouting slogans against the police the protesters accused it of total failure in maintaining a proper vigil to keep check on burglars which has crated a panic in the area.
The protest continued for the entire day and despite the efforts of administration to pursue the protesters to lift the road blockade they refused to budge an inch from their stand and demanded the transfer of SHO.
Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Additional DC Samba and ACR Samba besides other officers also visited the dharna venue to pacify the agitating youth but they refused to budge an inch till their demands are settled. After their talks failed with administration, protesters’ warned to continue road blockade. They also warned to block National Highway tomorrow.
Terming the role of police totally dismal the protesters said that daily thefts are taking place in the Ramgarh belt but police has failed to maintain a vigil due to which people feel totally scared.
The demonstration was led by Vijay Choudhary alias Baba Sarpanch Panchayati Halqa Chak Salaria.
However, later in the night Sarpanch along with some local leaders was invited by DC in his office chamber where they were assured that the demands will be settled.
The Sarpanch warned that if demands were not settled by Friday they will again resort in protest.
