SAMBA, July 26: The residents of Mandi Sangwali held protest and blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway at Samba Chowk here today.
Large number of people from Mandi Sangwali assembled on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway at Samba Chowk here and raised slogans against the Police Department for not arresting the accused, involved in the killing of a person and injuring one another by his car on July 23 at Co Rakwala on Swankha road.

The protestors alleged that few days back, two young boys from Samba were standing on the road side at Co Rakwala on Swankha road after paying obeisance at Baba Sidh Goria Shrine at Swankha,  when a rashly driven Swift car bearing registration number JK21A-0015 hit them. The driver of the vehicle fled away from the spot, they added.
The injured persons were shifted to nearby hospital where doctor declared one of the injured person identified as Ashwani Sambyal, son of Ajmer Singh of Sangwali Mandi as brought dead and another injured namely Sandeep Abrol of Vijaypur was later referred to Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for advanced treatment. Despite lapse of three days, police have failed to arrest the car driver, the protestors alleged.
Sugreev Singh, a resident of Mandi Sangwali while talking to media persons demanded immediately arrest of the advocate and registration of a murder case against him.
After getting information, DySP Headquarter Samba Tanveer along with SHO Samba Inspector Yashpal Jamwal reached the spot and told the protestors that the accused involved in the accident has been arrested and handed over to Ramgarh police, when he had came to court for bail. He assured that a transparent probe will be conducted in the incident.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
